This month we’ve been thrilled to support the launch of this exciting project in Birmingham, which was covered in the local press last week.

Birmingham and West Midlands businesses can now benefit from Google’s Digital Garage project, which has launched in the Library of Birmingham this week. Birmingham is once again the second city in the UK, as Google’s Digital Garage is here having already enjoyed success in Leeds earlier this year.

Google’s Digital Garage aims to reach over 200,000 small to medium businesses and startups in the UK and provide a real growth engine for the local economy. Google quotes that small businesses with a strong web presence grow twice as fast as those without, and the garages aim to help businesses ‘tune up’ their digital skills across areas such as search, web, analytics and social media.

Located perfectly on the first floor of the new central library opposite the business information section, the dedicated area houses both free sessions with a digital mentor and training seminars on a range of ways to improve your presence online. The ‘garage’ features breakout pods, informal seating and is appropriately visual with garage-themed decor such as screws, oil cans and tool boxes.

Local SME’s and entrepreneurs can book a free 1:1 mentoring session or seminar covering the basics on the Birmingham Digital Garage website.

The project is expected to last until the end of this year and tie up with other initiatives such as coding sessions for 25,000 teachers.

All very fitting for a company that actually started life in a garage almost 17 years ago…
